Description
A vibrant, naturally hydrating, and incredibly easy-to-make watermelon drink that balances sweet fruit with bright lime juice. Perfect for summer gatherings and ready in just 10 minutes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 medium seedless watermelons (seeded, about 6–8 cups cubed)
- 2–3 large limes (juiced, about ½ cup)
- 4 cups cold water
- 2–4 tablespoons sugar or honey (adjust to taste)
- 1 cup packed fresh mint leaves (optional)
- Ice (for serving)
- Tajín or chili powder (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Cut the watermelon in half and then into quarters. Remove the rind and chop the red flesh into 1-inch cubes, removing any seeds.
- Place the watermelon cubes in a blender and blend on high until completely smooth and liquid-like.
- Pour the blended watermelon into a large pitcher. Add the fresh lime juice and sugar (or honey). If using mint, add it now.
- Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon or whisk until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Pour in the cold water and stir again. Adjust the ratio of water to watermelon juice based on your preference for strength.
- Taste and adjust: add more lime if too sweet, or more sugar if too tart.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill thoroughly.
- Serve over ice, garnished with lime wedges, mint leaves, or a sprinkle of Tajín.
Notes
Use ripe, heavy watermelons for the best flavor. Fresh lime juice is essential to balance the sweetness. If using granulated sugar, ensure it is fully dissolved to avoid grittiness. The drink can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; stir before serving as separation is natural.
