Description
A thick, creamy, and delicious 5-minute vegan protein shake that tastes like a Reese’s Cup. Perfect for busy mornings or post-workout fuel, this recipe uses frozen bananas and plant-based ingredients for a nutrient-dense meal.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups unsweetened almond milk or oat milk
- 1 large frozen banana, peeled and sliced
- 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 scoop vegan protein powder (vanilla or chocolate)
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional, depending on protein powder sweetness)
- 1 teaspoon chia seeds (optional)
- 2–3 ice cubes (only if banana isn’t frozen enough)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prep the frozen banana: Peel and slice a ripe banana, then freeze for at least 2 hours or overnight until rock hard.
- Add ingredients to blender: Pour in the milk first to help blades spin freely. Add frozen banana slices, peanut butter, cocoa powder, protein powder, maple syrup (if using), chia seeds, and salt.
- Blend until smooth: Start on low speed to break up the banana, then gradually increase to high. Blend for 45-60 seconds until completely smooth with no chunks.
- Taste and adjust: If too thick, add a splash more milk. If not sweet enough, add more maple syrup or a date. If too bitter, add a pinch more salt.
- Serve immediately: Pour into a glass or travel cup and drink fresh. Top with extra peanut butter or cocoa powder if desired.
Notes
Frozen bananas are essential for the thick, creamy texture; fresh bananas will result in a thin shake. Add liquid to the blender first to prevent dry ingredients from sticking. This shake is best enjoyed immediately as it separates if stored. For meal prep, freeze pre-portioned dry ingredients in bags.
